Jayson Mburu
Kansas University Men’s Basketball
Jayson Mburu, a student from Nairobi, Kenya, was set to begin his junior year at the University of Kansas. Coming to college in America was a dream come true for him, and being the first-ever international student manager for Kansas Men’s Basketball allowed him to connect with the game he loves while building a community that he now considers family. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen financial circumstances back home, Jayson could not enroll in classes last fall. As a result, he had to step away from his role as a student manager.
Grow the Game, in collaboration with the initiative started by Kansas Men’s Basketball Head Student Manager Andrew Korta, is proud to drive a transformative fundraising campaign supporting Kansas Men’s Basketball student manager Jayson Mburu. Together, we raised the $25,000 needed to pay for his tuition, allowing him to re-enroll as a full-time student, reinstate his position as a manager, and graduate a proud Jayhawk.
Aniya Majors-Rivera
Howard University Men’s Basketball
Aniya’s story is powerful. She is a full time mother pursuing her degree in biology and working towards a career in medicine. What stood in her way was a $5,000 deficit to re-enroll at Howard for her senior year. Grow the Game partnered with Howard Men’s Basketball to help Aniya complete her education. Thanks to our generous donors, Aniya is set to graduate in June.
NABC Convention Access and Lodging
Grow the Game’s mission is to increase accessibility to entering the field of college athletics. Annually, we partner with the NABC to give our members free access to the NABC Convention. We also host a lottery to provide free lodging to selected members.
